I still remember the late summer afternoon when my friend Wim asked me to join him to his favorite lake. We did not see each other for a long time due to corona and his vulnerable condition. He was diagnosed with cancer which made him weaker by the day.

 

It was that afternoon when he asked me to film him in the last months of his life before he would leave us on the 31st of December 2020. By doing so it was for him an way to say goodbye to all the beloved friends and family who he would leave behind on his journey. Making a short film enabled him to engage with the future where he would no longer be physically present but might be very much alive on the screen in that particular moment. A short Memoriam was shown during the ceremony on the 5th of Jan. when we waved him goodbye together.
